The concept is romantically appealing (turning missed real-world connections into matches), but it works best in high-density urban areas where you regularly pass large numbers of people. In suburban or rural settings, the crossed-paths mechanic can produce very few results. The free tier is functional but has a daily Like limit. A subscription (from $14.99 a month on the US App Store) removes that limit and shows who has liked you.

What Is Happn?
Happn is a French dating app launched in 2014 by Didier Rappaport. It uses real-time geolocation to show you profiles of people you have physically passed in your daily life — your commute, your coffee shop, your gym, your neighbourhood. This creates matches based on genuine proximity and shared geography. According to happn's help centre, it looks for people within a radius of a few kilometres, can also show people nearby you have not crossed yet, and never shows other users your exact position. happn says it has more than 140 million users worldwide, and its help centre reports an average of 1,162,300 monthly active users in the EU from January to June 2025. Hello Group (Nasdaq: MOMO), a Beijing-based social app company, bought happn in 2025 and lists it among its brands.

Is happn free?
Yes. You can create a profile, see people you cross paths with, send Likes and chat once you both like each other (a Crush). Free accounts have a daily Like limit that resets the next day. A subscription removes that limit, shows the list of people who have liked you, adds more SuperCrushes and unlocks extra search criteria.
How do I cancel my happn subscription?
Cancel in the store you paid through, at least 24 hours before it renews. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose happn and cancel. On Android, open Google Play, tap your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose happn and cancel. happn's help centre says deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. You keep subscriber features until the end of the period you have paid for.
How do I delete my happn account?
Cancel any subscription first, because deleting your account does not cancel it. Then tap your profile picture, go to Settings, open My Data and choose Delete my account, then confirm. Deletion is permanent. You can pause your account instead if you are not sure.
