Muzz (formerly Muzmatch) Review 2026: Honest Rating & Expert Verdict

Quick Verdict

Muzz (formerly Muzmatch) is a Muslim marriage app that says it has 20 million members. Founded in London in 2015 by Shahzad Younas, who still runs it, the app is not owned by Match Group: it changed its name to Muzz in 2022 after losing a UK trade mark case brought by Match Group. It is purpose-built for Muslims seeking halal, marriage-focused connections. Standout features include the optional **Chaperone** feature (you can include a chaperone or wali in your conversations), Islamic profile details (sect, prayer frequency, hijab/beard preferences), and a focus on marriage as the primary relationship goal. Every profile is verified with a selfie, and ID verification is optional. The app can be used free, with chat limits, and the paid Muzz Gold subscription is sold weekly, monthly, quarterly, six-monthly or yearly. For Muslim singles who want a faith-first app with culturally specific features, Muzz is a strong choice.

What Is Muzmatch?

Muzz, originally called Muzmatch, was founded in 2015 by Shahzad Younas, a former investment banker who left Morgan Stanley to build the app. It is run by Muzz Ltd and is not part of Match Group. Match Group sued Muzmatch in the UK, saying the name infringed its Match trade marks. The court agreed in 2022, the app was renamed Muzz the same year, and the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling in April 2023. The platform serves Muslims of all sects and levels of observance, from secular to highly devout, with profile customisation that includes sect (Sunni, Shia, Other), prayer frequency, dietary preferences, and views on hijab and modesty. Muzz is available on iOS and Android. Safety tools listed on its App Store page include selfie verification for every profile, optional ID verification with a blue badge, control over who can see your profile and screenshot blocking on photos.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Is Muzz the same app as Muzmatch?

Yes. Muzmatch changed its name to Muzz in 2022 after a UK court ruled that the Muzmatch name infringed Match Group's trade marks. The app is run by Muzz Ltd, which is not part of Match Group.

How do I cancel Muzz Gold?

If you bought Muzz Gold through the App Store, it is charged to your Apple account and renews automatically. Turn off auto-renewal in your Apple account's subscription settings before the renewal date. Muzz's App Store listing says a current subscription cannot be cancelled during the period you have already paid for, so you keep Gold until it ends.
