Thursday Review: Dating App Closed in January 2025

Quick Verdict

Thursday closed its dating app in January 2025. The app, launched in London in 2021, only let members match and message on Thursdays, a deliberate limit meant to cut endless scrolling and get people to meet in person. When it announced the closure, Thursday said interest in dating apps was falling fast and that it would focus on in-person events instead. Thursday now runs ticketed singles-only events, which its website says take place every week in more than 150 cities, and its App Store app is for event listings and tickets rather than matching. Thursday is not one of the brands Match Group lists as its own. This review describes the dating app as it was before it closed. If you want a dating app with a large pool now, [Hinge](/reviews/hinge/) is a widely available alternative.

What Is Thursday?

Thursday was a dating app launched in London in 2021 by George Rawlings and Matthew McNeill Love. The core idea was deliberate constraint: matching and messaging were only open on Thursdays, so dating became a weekly event rather than an always-on scrolling habit. The company also ran in-person singles events. In January 2025 Thursday announced it was closing the dating app to focus on events. Its website now says it hosts singles-only events every week in more than 150 cities, from bar nights to run clubs and comedy. The Thursday app on the App Store, published by Honeypot Dating Ltd, offers event listings and tickets rather than profiles and matching. Thursday does not appear in Match Group's list of its brands, and no official source shows that Match Group ever bought it.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Is Thursday still a dating app?

No. Thursday announced in January 2025 that it was closing its one-day-a-week dating app to focus on in-person events. It now runs ticketed singles-only events, which its website says take place every week in more than 150 cities. The Thursday app on the App Store is for finding events and buying tickets, not for matching with people.

      Does Match Group own Thursday?

There is no official source showing that it does. Match Group does not list Thursday among its brands, and the Thursday app on the App Store is published by Honeypot Dating Ltd, a UK company.
